In the world of horology, we believe every collector has a unique story to tell—one that blends personal history, creativity, and passion. For Pearly, watches are more than mere accessories; they are a reflection of individuality and a canvas for self-expression. Petite in stature but brimming with charm, Pearly’s journey into the watch-collecting world is as distinctive as her Instagram handle, inspired by the birthmark on her wrist.
From her childhood fascination with her family’s grandfather clock to her penchant for unconventional designs and timeless craftsmanship, Pearly’s journey is one of discovery and connection. A member of the Singapore Watch Club (SWC), she treasures the camaraderie of a close-knit community that shares her love for all things horological.
Join us as we delve into Pearly’s world, uncovering the inspirations behind her collection, the stories tied to her most cherished pieces, and her thoughts on the evolving journey of watch collecting.
Pearly presents us with four neo-vintage timepieces of various unique shapes.
Tell us a little bit about yourself, and what do you do?
I’m Pearly. I’m petite, which earned me the childhood nickname pearlylittle, and yes, I have a birthmark on my left wrist, which inspired my Instagram handle. I manage partner relations and business solutions in the payments industry. Many may not realise it, but I’m the complete opposite of what you might see on my Instagram. I’m super reserved, camera-shy, and I love cosying up under a blanket at home, watching a show. My Instagram is essentially my alter ego—a space where I share my journey through the pieces I wear. It’s become a platform for me to connect with watch enthusiasts, meet new people, and learn from the diverse perspectives of those I encounter online and in real life.
What are your other hobbies outside of watches?
I have a healthy obsession with fashion and style—I genuinely enjoy dressing up! Exploring trends, mixing pieces, and curating outfits has become my creative outlet. I’m particularly drawn to anything timeless, whether it’s a classic handbag, a well-tailored jacket, or even a simple shirt. I appreciate “if-you-know-you-know” fashion pieces and value quality items that last—a capsule wardrobe is my ultimate goal.
Cartier “Calandre” ref. 6603
During the pandemic, watch collecting became a family activity. Once travel resumed, I planned a family trip to Tokyo, where we explored vintage watch dealers. That’s where I found the Cartier Calandre, and I didn’t hesitate to make it mine.
How did you first get exposed to watches?
When I was young, I vividly remember my parents and grandfather wearing watches. I was fascinated by the ritual of putting on a watch. We also had a grandfather clock at home that my dad wound regularly. I was curious about how it worked, though my dad would always warn me, “Stay away from the grandfather clock!” A fun fact: my dad set the clock 15 minutes ahead because he believed no one should ever rush, even in a bustling city like Singapore.
Years later, my dad gave the grandfather clock to my husband and me as a wedding gift. I know it’s unconventional for a Chinese family, but I had specifically requested it—it felt like preserving a cherished piece of my childhood.
How would you describe the sort of watches that appeal to you?
I’m drawn to unconventional dials and innovative case shapes—pieces that celebrate creativity and individuality. I don’t have a fixed answer to “What’s next for you?” For me, it’s about whatever catches my eye. It’s all about the feeling and connection a piece evokes. I believe in collecting what you love, and I find beauty in slightly offbeat pieces that embrace the art of the unexpected.
Piaget Asymmetric Jade ref. 9467
Jade has always held special significance for me—it’s a symbol of protection and wellness. After my husband Norman proposed with a jade ring, we began searching for a jade-dial watch. When we found this asymmetrical piece, we immediately arranged a meeting with the seller at a local jade shop to acquire it.
How did you develop a taste for watches off the beaten path?
It takes time to define your style. I live by a favourite quote from American novelist Chuck Palahniuk: “Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I’ve ever known.” I believe our tastes and individuality are shaped by the people we meet and experiences we share. My husband, parents, grandfather, and other collectors I’ve interacted with have all influenced my journey. A piece of advice I hold dear is to prioritise quality over quantity.

Tell us about your most sentimental acquisition.
It has to be my Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 4700 in two-tone. It was the watch that threw me down the rabbit hole of horology. My husband gifted it to me after I graduated in 2020, and it’s a piece I love wearing daily.
Do you and your husband Norman share the same taste in watches?
Initially, no. Norman was obsessed with movement types like Lemania and Valjoux and leaned towards chronographs. I, on the other hand, prioritised simplicity and aesthetics. Since Norman is more knowledgeable about watches, it took me some time to catch up and justify my choices to align our tastes for sharing watches. Over time, our preferences have evolved, and now our tastes are much more aligned.
Vacheron Constantin Prestige de la France ref. 15207
This “friendship piece” was inspired by a poster I saw at an SWC member’s home. The hunt took 3–4 years, as collectors rarely part with this historical model. One day, I found it listed on a vintage jeweller’s site, contacted them immediately, and soon, it was on its way to me!
When making a purchase on a vintage/neo-vintage watch, how do you exercise due diligence?
Always buy from legitimate and trusted sources! Another crucial step is talking to people. I connect with fellow collectors on Instagram and gather as much information as possible. Many watch enthusiasts are incredibly generous with their knowledge and experiences. In fact, doing your homework is part of the fun in collecting vintage and neo-vintage watches!
What’s it like being part of SWC?
I’m proud to be a part of SWC! It’s been a fun and supportive journey in a community where members inspire and uplift one another. SWC isn’t about trying hard to fit in—it’s about naturally connecting with like-minded individuals who share an effortless confidence and mutual appreciation for coolness. Being a part of SWC has given me opportunities to try new experiences, build meaningful friendships, and bond over shared interests beyond watches, like style, racing, and travel.
Audemars Piguet ref. 14876
This was discovered during our first visit to Pygmalion Gallery. We originally saw the perpetual calendar variant (ref. 25749), but while travelling, Norman stumbled upon this time-only variant hidden in a small shop. Though Norman initially spotted it, the unique lugs won my heart, and I now wear it more than he does!
What is your fondest memory of SWC?
The year-end GTG in 2023! It was a slow, breezy Saturday afternoon at an outdoor café in Changi. Everyone was casually dressed, sipping coffee or beer, and enjoying each other’s watches. It was a perfect way to round off a busy year.
What would you like to see SWC do more of?
I’d love to see SWC push boundaries! The collaborations so far have been amazing, and I’d like to see more—perhaps expanding beyond watches into jewellery or objets d’art. And more SWC trips, please!
